Our Work

We have worked with a wide range of people and organisations from multiple sectors and industries, with specialism in the public and charity sectors.

Across the public sector, we have worked with government agencies, councils, NHS trusts and blue light services.

We have worked with large and medium-sized charities, as well as providing support to smaller charities too.

Our storytelling work has also helped retailers, utility companies and building societies.

Success stories

Inclusive recruitment campaign
Defining the challenge
Attract under-represented groups to consider a career as a firefighter and sign up for the service’s taster Have A Go days.

Taking action
We analysed previous campaigns, as well as demographic data, to build the strategy. We interviewed firefighters from the under-represented groups to gain their insights and hear their stories.

Getting results
A campaign identity built on belonging was created and rolled out across social and digital advertising, as well as localised posters and flyers. The campaign delivered an 18% increase in female attendees at Have A Go days, as well as trebling the engagement rate on campaign ads.

What they said
“James created an engaging campaign that delivered exactly what we wanted. You are working with someone exceptionally knowledgable and adaptive to your needs and goals.”
Richard Edney, Communications Manager

Refreshed tone of voice
Defining the challenge
Bring consistency and clarity to the organisation’s tone of voice internally and create an engaging, creative style guide that captures the new principles.

Taking action
We brought together the internal communications and engagement teams for a day-long workshop, where we pulled apart their current approach and what they aspired to be (via Ant and Dec and Donald Trump). We then shaped this into principles and priorities for the guide.

Getting results
The final guide was created from the team’s workshop ideas. It was written and designed as a simple, flowchart-style document, with short, useful tips alongside.

What they said
“James gave us the creative spark we were missing. He brought fresh perspective, steered the conversation with real skill, and helped us untangle our thinking.”
Ben Sims, Senior Internal Communications Manager

New event narrative and branding

Defining the challenge
Create an inspiring, engaging voice and brand for a new festival, focused on the role of insurance in building a more sustainable world.

Taking action
We defined the event’s narrative, strapline and messaging, using this to develop the accompanying visual identity and website. This was rolled out across further social media assets and event branding.

Getting results
The event saw hundreds of insurance professionals attend more than 20 events across the week-long festival.

What they said
“James’s extensive experience and knowledge was hugely reassuring, able to see the strategy and translate into tactics, and always thinking one step ahead.”
Antony Ireland, Founder, Better Insurance Network

Sparking storytelling skills

Defining the challenge
Help the team embed a new storytelling approach and mindset to their communications.

Taking action
We took the team away from the frontline for a day to immerse themselves in story learning and activities. From Disney to Harry Potter, we sourced inspiration from all angles to create creative, confident storytellers.

What they said
“A brilliant, thought-provoking session to inspire the team to tell impactful stories. A great balance of thinking, creativity and humour.” Emily Ridley, Senior Corporate Communications and Campaigns Manager
